Free Credit Repair

Did you know you could repair your credit free? You don't need to hire an attorney or high priced credit repair company. Here are a couple of quick tips to help you get started.

1. Obtain your three credit reports. You get one free copy per year. You can order these on line. You will need Equifax, Experian and Trans Union. (Links provided below)

2. You want to make a list of all of the negative items you want removed. Keep in mind, if the items are over 2 years old, discharged bankruptcies, charge offs, repossessions or late payments, these items are quite easy to remove. The credit bureaus only allow the creditors 30 days to respond to your dispute. Most of the time, if 2 years have passed, you have a better chance of the creditor not taking the time to dig out the info to challenge you.

3. DO NOT complete the Dispute Forms that the Credit Bureaus included with copies of your credit file that they sent you. It's much more effective to write letters. Be sure to include a copy of your credit file and keep the original for your records. Highlight or underline the items you are disputing. Mail the dispute forms to the address listed on each credit file.

4. Make sure you dispute any inquiries you don't recognize. Simply write that you never applied for credit with that company. Every time someone pulls your credit your score drops!!!

5. Make a photocopy of your dispute letters for your records and be sure to send it by Certified and Return Receipt Mail from your local Post Office. Mail your dispute letters directly to the credit bureaus.
