What kind of Auto Insurance do I need?

Auto Insurance coverage can be quite expensive these days. As a single Mom, sometimes this may seem lower down on the scale of importance. I would like to quickly run through the different types of auto insurance coverage and explain what they cover.

Bodily Injury Liability insurance covers injuries that you may cause to another person. If the accident is your fault, this would help to pay for the other person's medical bills. Liability limits vary from state to state, but you must keep enough coverage to protect your family.

Property Damage Liability covers the other persons car or property. If you have an accident and you only have state minimum liability coverage and you total out a brand new Corvette? You are probably going to be out of pocket at least $40,000. Does that make sense? This coverage also covers damage to others property such as a fence or building you my accidentally hit.

Always make sure you keep in mind that you need to keep enough liability insurance to cover your assets...like your home, property, etc.

Comprehensive Auto Insurance covers your car for things like fire, theft, vandalism, windstorm, and hail. Basically anything but a crash or collision. This usually gives you a choice of deductibles. The higher deductible you choose the lower the premium or price. So accept the highest deductible you can afford.

Collision covers damage to anything your car may come in contact with. That's pretty basic but again you have choices in your deductible amounts to think about that when you get a quote to renew your auto insurance next time.

Uninsured Motorist covers you and your passengers for medical bills and physical damage to your vehicle over and above what the at fault parties insurance will cover...or if they have no coverage at all, this would cover you. Again, this coverage is valuable, get what you can afford. Click here to compare auto insurance rates.
